Volunteer with Us

Volunteering to an important cause can bring you a tremendous sense of satisfaction. It gives you an opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives and helps to build a strong and vibrant community.

The Family Centre delivers a range of services for children, young people and families across the Byron, Ballina and Tweed shires that build and enhance relationships and parenting skills, see  what we do for details of our services.

We know our community has many skilled and experienced people who can help The Family Centre to make change achievable.

We are looking for volunteers who share our vision and values and want to be a part of a trusted local organisation with a focus on creating strong connections with our community and driving progressive social change.

Volunteering for TFC is a great way to use your skills and experience for social good!  And, It’s also good for you – you’ll meet interesting people, make new friends, learn new skills, advance your career and even improve your health!

Ways to Get Involved

Our volunteers help to contribute to our organisation in a number of ways, depending on their skills, availability and personal interests.

Some of the volunteer roles available include:

  • promoting our services or running activities at local community events
  • fundraising  such as our annual Christmas gift wrapping
  • assisting one of our services such as play group or REALskills
  • assisting our business services team in one of our office locations.

You can be involved in just one, or many, activities. We can also work with you to create new ways to utilise your skills and expertise for the benefit of people who use our services and the community.

PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A HIGH DEMAND FOR VOLUNTEER PLACEMENTS, AND UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT GENERAL VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME. THE APPLICATION FORM IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE, PLEASE CHECK BACK REGULARLY FOR UPDATES.

Upon receipt of your application our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to make a suitable appointment time and meet with you to discuss how we can find the best fit for you and The Family Centre.

All prospective volunteers will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check and a National Police Check.

You can start the process immediately for a Working with Children Check by completing the form through the following link:  Working with Children Check. Please remember to take your application number and ID to your nearest Road Transport Authority to verify your ID, and then take your application number to your appointment at The Family Centre.

We will also require a National Police Check. We can obtain this on your behalf with your permission and 100 points of ID before commencement in a volunteer role.

Once you have applied to be a volunteer you will received email updates about new volunteering opportunities, you might also like to subscribe to our newsletter.

Once your application has been accepted you can schedule yourself onto shifts for various volunteer roles at the current volunteer opportunities section.
